GreenBlue is pleased to announce that Lucy Pierce has joined the team as a Project Associate with the Sustainable Packaging Coalition. Lucy holds a Master of Environmental Studies from The Evergreen State College and a Bachelor of Arts in Sustainability Studies and Cultural Anthropology from Otterbein University.
What inspired you to work in the sustainability field?
Growing up in a Midwestern rust belt city I watched historic buildings downtown become abandoned, while new shopping malls and subdivisions popped up like dandelions, expanding urban sprawl. I spent my childhood riding horses through cornfields and adjacent woods and enjoying the Great Lakes region, which includes the massively polluted Lake Erie. I decided I needed to learn more about the human impact on the natural world and found myself studying sustainability in college. I learned that our impacts could last for generations and I wanted to be a part of a field that seeks to transform those impacts.
What do you hope to achieve at GreenBlue?
I look forward to contributing to a solutions-oriented organization who values collaboration with industry and deepening the collective understanding of the impacts packaging and materials have on the earth. I hope to use my expertise to advance sustainable packing in companies within various industries and increase cooperation and knowledge sharing between stakeholders.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to experiment in the kitchen, whether it’s a new recipe or putting whatever is left in the fridge together, seeing live music with friends, playing tennis, trying a new restaurant, practicing yoga at the studio or in my living room, and going for hikes with dogs (and sometimes people).
Happiness is….
Hosting a dinner party for my friends and family with lots of yummy food from around the world.
